Bookmark or Share- Cheap and easy Mellotron - TalkBass.comI've always loved the Mellotron sound, ever since The Moody Blues and King Crimson, and that lush orchestral sound they got out of their Mellotrons. So I decided to try something out. I have one of those cheap Casio keyboards (CTK-700), which actually has a decent synth-strings sound.

Steven Wilson is an immense talent, not only with his own projects, but also production/remix work; that being said, the modern day ‘prog’ scene, where a mellotron is most likely to be heard, remains a niche/cult thing.
- Mellotron.. ..how much are they worth today? - TalkBass.comDang dude! Well the new Mellotron Mk VI instruments go for $5200.00 USD.... As Keb says, you'd probably score $4000 for a nice old one, or at least $3000 I expect.
- WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MELLOTRON??? - TalkBass.comThe Mellotron was made famous by the Moody Blues - long before Genesis formed. In many cases on Moody Blues recordings, what sounds like an orchestra is actually a Mellotron. It did indeed use physical tape loops (a lot of them), and aligning the heads and preparing the instrument for use was a major task.
