Simple get a 16:9 display that when in 4:3 mode with the pillarbox on the sides the screen size of the 4:3 picture is equivalent to a 27 or 32 inch 4:3 TV. 40" 16:9 TV in 4:3 mode is equivalent to about 32 inch 4:3 TV and 46" 16:9 TV in 4:3 mode is equivalent to about a 37 inch 4:3 TV.
- Frame Dimming vs. Local Dimming - AVS ForumLocal dimming means different portions of the screen can change brightness. For example, on rolling credits the tv with frame dimming will dim to get better blacks, while also dimming the whites, since it is dimming the entire frame. The tv with local dimming will dim the black parts, while maintaining white level.
