- Middle January vs Mid-January. | WordReference ForumsI don't know where, I think I've heard native speakers use "middle January" with the same meaning as "mid-January" For example: "Last year, I had an accident in middle January." Vs "Last year, I had an accident in mid-January." I know the second one is right, but I am unsure about the first one. Could you please help me out? Thanks in advance.

- Late in the year / Later in the year - WordReference ForumsIf he got sick in January and died in February, you can say he, "died later that year" and still it would not be "late that year". "Late that year" is somewhat ambiguous, but it would have to be at least in the second half of the year to qualify. I would say "late that year" would run from August through December.
