Bookmark or Share- Why are the black levels of IPS displays so bad? - [H]ard|Forumplasma or a few high end zone lit VA LCD tv's are best for movies (black levels and detail-in blacks). Several tradeoffs, but 60hz input alone makes them a poor choice for gaming imo.. IPS for highest ppi and color, gorgeous still imagery, desktop and app use. Most are 60hz input. Suffer FoV motion blur badly.
- VA better than IPS for eye comfort and reading? - [H]ard|ForumI've used 9 LCDs in the past 10 years 3 TNs, 2 VAs, 4 IPS. My impressions in terms of comfort: TNs: 1 excelent, 1 unusable, 1 very good. VAs: both good, no eye strain, but fuzzy texts. IPS: 1 unusable, 1 excelent, 1 excelent (old HP ZR22w) still use it for everything other than gaming, 1 tolerable (some discomfort).
- Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)IPS panels have terrible picture quality. I have a highly rated IPS gaming monitor and the picture quality is terrible compared to my OLED television. If you look at a place like rings, IPS panels rank below VA panels, which rank below OLED panels, with QD OLED panels being the best.
- "16 local dimming zones" - IPS monitor with this currently? - [H]ard|ForumThere is now a commoditization path later this decade to achieve that with just a 3-figure price. Basically 2025-ish, probably be 2027-ish due to fab shortages and the economy pause caused by COVID. But the path is established to get parts of the gaming monitor industry there.
- PC gaming monitors that have hardware calibration? 32" or 27"XoR_ said: LG 27GN950 and newer 27GP950 - which is the same monitor but with HDMI 2.1 so 120Hz VRR - have hardware calibration. Those are gaming monitors with 3840x2160 144Hz and have OC option for 160Hz. I got LG 27GP950 recently and while I have not done hardware calibration yet on it I can confirm it is pretty great gaming monitor.
