Do you find it useful? Do you read Inside Higher Ed? They provide great content with free access. If you create a free account then you can view all content. I personally don’t pay for CHE because I read IHE.

The US "back office" (non faculty) roles will be in things like admissions and marketing, finance/bursar, financial aid, facilities, and information systems/IT. Unless you already have experience in higher education, it would be hard to jump over from another industry, and if you do, expect a pay cut.

I only have experience in Residence Life and Student Activities (probably considered the “worst” areas of higher education to work in), but in my experience, it’s more than just the area. Your supervisor and the institution itself can make or break the experience.
- Why did the Chronicle of Higher Education close their forum?I just checked back in to find that while I was doing research for a year and a half, they closed the best forum on the net. Why? I never quite understood the reason, the cost of running an online forum is negligible and there were already volunteer moderators from the users. I find that now, I rarely visit the CHE....
