Bookmark or Share- The Shadow Over Innsmouth (1992) - I have subtitled and ... - RedditWell, I thought it was a little out of place, but I always kept in mind the Innsmouth look is really just a metaphor for incest and inbred appearances that could be encountered in isolated, remote places with limited breeding stock. Innsmouth would be majorly inbred. They only breed with a small population of fish people out on the reef.

Lovecraft never attributed the Irish or other "Celtic" peoples with piscine or batrachian traits. It's hard to cite sources on this because it's a bit of popular supposition with no real data to support it.
- What does the city names mean: Innsmouth, Newburyport, Arkham?Innsmouth is a fictional town, though the name is most likely based on the New England town of Portsmouth. The "mouth" refers to the mouth of the river, in which the port sits. As a lifelong resident of New England, very close to where these towns are located, I would parse Innsmouth as being similar, kind of being "in the mouth."

The restrictions on spending XP were annoying and pointless (and didn't even make sense if you tried to wrap your head around Innsmouth's narrative structure.) But gameplay-wise, it's very strong, except that finale.
