When to use "I" or "I am" - English Language Learners Stack Exchange
In fact, I've found that "I'm" is used before a verb, to be descriptive and to announce your location: "I am walking to the store", "I am a doctor", "I am at the store". But also, it's used before an adjective or adverb in simple present: "I am sure", "I am hungry".
A common mistake when using “I’m” - My English Matters
So every time you use “I’m”, you’re actually saying “I am”. Let me explain to you why the use of “I’m” in the above examples are incorrect. I’ll do my best not to confuse you! Now, “am” is actually a verb. Every *clause in a sentence has a verb.
What's the difference between "I'm" and "I am"? [closed]
You cannot write "A boy, I'm", but you can write "A boy, I am". 'I'm' may also be considered informal outside speech or a literary scope. 'I am' is also longer to pronounce, and therefore has more emphasis (as pointed out by one of the answers). Share. Improve this answer.
I'm | English meaning - Cambridge Dictionary
When I'm older, I'm going to be a famous artist. I get terribly nervous when I'm speaking in public. I've told Steve I'm not interested, but he keeps asking me out. (Definition of I'm from the Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary & Thesaurus © Cambridge University Press)
Is there any difference on the use of I'm and I am? [duplicate]
2. (it was my downvote) No, they're not "the same". Among other differences, I'm is informal, and it's more common in speech than writing regardless of formality. Plus "I am" can stand alone as a two-word reply to a question (from someone asking whether you're a native speaker or not, for example).
