Sigmund Freud often discussed the idea of “hysteria” and women’s behaviors, but histrionic personality disorder, as we know it now, wasn’t formally recognized in the psychology world until 1980. Only then was it added to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders as a condition and could be diagnosed. More @Wikipedia
