- Sacramento River - Water Education FoundationThe headwaters of the Sacramento River and its main northern tributaries —the Pit and McCloud rivers — are regulated by Shasta Dam. Other major tributaries —the Feather and American rivers to the south —and smaller streams are heavily regulated by dams for flood control, water supply, power production and recreation.
- Shasta Dam - Water Education FoundationLocated 12 miles north of Redding, Shasta traps the cold waters of the Pit and McCloud rivers and the headwaters of the Sacramento River behind its 602-foot curved, concrete face. Roughly 90 percent of the water stored in Shasta Lake comes from rainfall.
- Colorado River - Water Education FoundationFrom its headwaters in Colorado and Wyoming, the 1,450-mile-long river and its tributaries pass through parts of seven states and serves Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming along with 30 tribal nations.
