Bookmark or Share- Southern Cal - Backcountry PilotKelso Valley was always a private strip but I also heard that someone was going in there to make a paved first class thing out of it. The one up just northwest of Red Rock Canyon, (probably the one you are saying is on Jawbone Cyn rd.) we used to call "Cocaine International Airport" 25 years ago.
- Fly-In Lodges/Vacation Spots in Idaho - Backcountry PilotGreene Valley Ranch next to the Atlanta strip, but with it's own strip is going to open to private aircraft this spring. It would be worth checking out. There is a blurb on it in the March Idaho Aviation Fly-Line newsletter. The Silver Spur in Dixie Town would also be a great stay. Of course all of the others mentioned above are good, too.
- La Garita Creek Ranch & Creede, CO Fly-in - Sept 20-22ndDropped into La Garita and Mountain Shadows a couple of days ago. Both strips are in great shape. Green grass! The weekend forecast is looking awesome. Lionel Carpenter, owner Morning Shadows, is hoping for visitors Saturday. He celebrated his 89th B-Day Sept 4 with a new PA-11. - Colorado Airport Camping? - Backcountry PilotTwo great placed to camp: Morning Shadows Ranch (CD69) and La Garita Ranch (5CO6). Also the Sand Dunes Pool. No FAA id. They have campgrounds, hot springs pool and great food. 2500 foot dirt strip. Del Norte (KRCV) and Creede (C24) allow camping on the field. All located in South Central Colorado in the San Luis Valley.
- Help me build a dream trip - Backcountry PilotElectric City, Desert Aire, and Silvies Valley Ranch have golfing adjacent to the airports. Silvies is fancy, and has a short course with goats available as caddies, as well as fishing, shooting, lodging, dining, etc. If Orvis lodges are your thing, it's closer to that than the local Par 3. Stehekin is beautiful, and has good fishing.
