Bookmark or Share- Capitalization in 18th Century German - »GOttes« and »GOTTES«There was a habit of writing the name of god with not one but more capital letters in order to honour him/her/it particularly and distinguish the spelling from how ordinary people are spelled. Therefore GOtt, or, with even more distinction (I suppose here): GOTT. I have seen this also in English. There are no implications for translation.

I think this one is the best exact translation: To God be gratitude. realizing that "to" is like indirect object in English, and in German we use dativ. So Gott should be dativ form here, if we change the words a little while maintaining the same form, it becomes:
- How do non-Baviarians respond to "Grüß Gott!"?Grüß Gott is no only used in Bavaria, but in Austria too. The answer to this salutation is just again Grüß Gott. No matter if you are Bavarian or not. If you feel uncomfortable with this salutation, you can also answer with. Guten Tag. or any other salutation you like. And this is again independent of the region you were born.
