Bookmark or Share- remember the bakeries - DAYTON HISTORY BOOKSI don't know about K&R but Smales is still there selling some darn fine pretzels. I remember as a kid in the 50's guys would come around to the school yards at recess carrying large grocery bags full of soft pretzels. Six cents a piece. I wonder what would happen today if a guy showed up at a school ground carrying a bag of goodies?

- door to door milk delivery - DAYTON HISTORY BOOKSAlso go carts and especially the trampoline centers. The Dixie and north Star drive inn's at night. Oh yea, Goodies hamburgers on Salem Ave. Wow, those were great times. Tony G. - Dayton in the 60s and 70s - DAYTON HISTORY BOOKSGreat place to work and gave me the bucks to do just about everything, buy a car and even get through college. Went to work at Rikes in 1978 and yes, I remember Downtown Dayton days. You could get all the free cigarettes you could stuff in a bag not to mention other goodies.
- Rike's Department Store - DAYTON HISTORY BOOKSAlso remember they had their own bakery where angel food cake lightly iced couldn't be beat. They also had a confectioner area offering wonderful candy.Think that tradition carried over to their other stores for awhile as did go to the kettering store to get goodies. It later was named Shillito-Rikes then became Lazarus.
