Bookmark or Share- Has anyone here noticed a large amount of Anglos (except Brits) tend to ...I took German to maintain that family heritage. I had a cousin who did the same thing, but I don't think anyone else in my generation did. I've also known a few Americans who studied German because they wanted to work in the chemical industry, and up until WW2 Germany led the world in chemistry. They are still quite influential in that area.
- Question about the history of British vs German american identity ...During ww1 there was a huge wave of racism in the US against Germans. German books were burned. German americans changed their names [like dr. seuss who's real last name is Geisel, and intentionally mispronounced seuss (his mother's maiden name) as ''soos'' or ''syous'' to make it sound less German than it's correct pronunciation:''soyce''].
- German minorities outside of Germany before WW2German speaking and German ethnicity are not the same. It is like Greek speaking in Turkey before exchanges. Turkey was mostly Greek speaking before the Turks, so the people speaking Greek are not totally the same as Greeks. There are still German speaking in France, Italy, Denmark , etc. and maybe the former Soviet Union.

It seems that Americans didn't bring many German women to US after WWII. Humor aside, my Great-Grandmother dreamed about an Italian man and my Great-Grandfather was a remarkable Italian man [and my Great-Grandmother was a stunning German ....]. They got married in Venice ...
