Fort Polk underwent major changes as the Vietnam War ended. Then-President Richard Nixon orchestrated elimination of the military draft, transforming the Army into an all-volunteer force. By 1974, boot camp for individual Soldiers at Fort Polk tapered off when the post took on a new role housing the storied 5 th Infantry (Mechanized) Division. More @Wikipedia
