Bookmark or Share- About the Firefighters’ Pension SchemesThe FPS 2006 is a statutory, defined benefit, public service pension scheme made under section 34 of the Fire and Rescue Services Act 2004. The FPS 2006 is a final salary scheme, meaning that pensions are based on scheme membership and pay on leaving the scheme.
- When can I retire? | Firefighters' Pension SchemeAn age retirement pension is payable to a firefighter who retires at age 50 or over with at least 25 years' service (it is referred to as an "ordinary pension" in the FPS rules), or at age 55 or over with less than 25 but at least 2 years' service (this is referred to as a "short service pension").
- Need to know | Firefighters' Pension SchemeIn addition to your FPS benefits, you may also qualify for a state retirement pension paid by the Government from State Pension age.
- Survivor's pension | Firefighters' Pension SchemeIf a member of the FPS 1992 dies (before or after retirement), having completed at least 2 years' pensionable service, a survivor's pension will be paid to a surviving husband, wife, or civil partner.
- When can I retire? | Firefighters' Pension SchemeNormal retirement age for all regular and standard retained firefighter members of the FPS 2006 is age 60. If you choose to retire at or after this age, your pension would be put into immediate payment.
