Extending out a M.2 NVMe slot with effectively a PCIe riser to provide a DIY eGPU adds attenuation and noise and is dependent on how much beyond-PCIe 4.0 spec allowance your OEM manufacturer added to allow it work and can be further muddied by subtle impedance and noise suppression differences of different brands of GPUs you attach.
