It's easy to look great when facing weak opposition. Alexander had a deeply flawed leadership style, as he led cavalry charges deep into enemy lines and was unable to command the entire battlefield. Such a general is a great subcommander but should never be considered in the top echelon of generals. More @Wikipedia
