Bookmark or Share- What's the difference between a restaurant and an eatery?Yeah, but I wouldn't call a diner an eatery either. I think of an eatery as a small, possibly family-run restaurant. I don't think I place as much of a negative connotation on it as you do (dinky counters, poor lighting, greasy chef, etc). I've eaten at a lot of nice eateries. –
- meaning in context - To order "the works" in a restaurant - English ...To support the second choise, I will refer to the Subway eateries: when you choose the salad, you can choose "the works", which means a mix of all salads. meaning-in-context Share
- phrase usage - "best in town" for something not in town - English ...Both foods and eateries belong to a class of things that can be found only in some geographical location, hence the phrase 'in town'. I wonder if this phrase can be applied to something that can't be pinpointed to a particular physical location.
