The VIN for all 1970 factory Duster 340s would start: VS29H0* where H denotes the factory 340 build, and zero(0) is the model year.
- ‘73 Duster Rear End Options! | For A Bodies Only Mopar ForumSo in 73 and 74 the 340-360 Dusters (most of them) came with the 8 1/4 suregrip rear end. Usually 3.21 or optional 3.55 gears, and they are big bolt pattern. They are strong and the 8 3/4 has a reputation for strength also, but most A-body 8 3/4 units are small bolt pattern. You could get either and have them beefed up a little. Nice Duster!

Then he fell off the edge and went back to Chebby after that. 1972 was the first year for the low compression 340 and I always thought his ran pretty good. If I had to spec out the fastest factory 340 Duster, I'd say a 1971 T-quad 340 w/ 3.91 gears.
