- Best Dremel Attachment For Removing Hard Rock?I use silicon carbide or aluminium oxide grinding stone attachments on a pendant dremel. The carbide ones are harder but more expensive. There are several different shapes. The ones with the highest peripheral speed take the most matrix off. Paul
- Dremel Tool - Fossil Preparation - The Fossil ForumI have used a Dremel and grinding stone to remove excess matrix. It throws tons of dust and is not precise enough to use close to the fossil. The many available configurations of stones make the Dremel useful for smoothing matrix for a nice "finished" look for a prep. Some Forum members have reported prep applications using a wire brush.

My hand gets tired and fingers get sweaty trying to hold on tho the tooth, then the buffing wheel on the Dremel catches a tip, or cusp, and off goes the tooth flying across the room. I believe the ElectroStylus with its pencil shape is superior to the top heavy type. It is easy to get distracted by a project and end up with a painful situation, so be mindful of time spent with tool in hand.
