Bookmark or Share- My External Hard Drive In Disk Utility Is Grayed OutI've been Googling for solutions for the past seven hours. My life lives on this disk. The thing is, I was about to back up and of course, this happens! I want to also mention that the computer reads the disk. I know this because it appears in Disk utility. But its grayed out. I tried to mount it and is says to repair it first.

I’ve been using Apple’s Disk Utility (DU) for ages and purchased a SoftRAID full license in Dec 2015 to handle RAID sets beyond what DU offered. The prospect of configuring RAID-5 using SoftRAID appealed to me for protecting against a single drive failure.

No need to run Recovery if you need to do an offline check of a disk on boot (or actually doing an offline check).
- Does anyone know how to fix error -69845 in disk utility?So I rebooted in to Recovery Mode, started Disk Utility, set "Show all devices" and "Show Snapshots" under "View" menu and then delete the snapshots both on the System disk level as well as on the Data partition. Then re-do the First-Aid on Container disk level and data disk level. All with 0 errors.
