It can be hard to imagine just how much cymbals are going to want to move around in a box - particularly when being tossed around (which they will be).
- How many cymbals do you really need? | [DFO] Drum ForumI have quite a few cymbals at home, but on a gig, I rarely use more than two or three plus hi-hats. Maybe for a fusion-type gig, which I never have, I might bring china, splash, bell cymbals, as well as a small crash, but mostly it's jazz with a house kit, so the classic two-crash-rides set-up, maybe plus a flat ride, works best.
- Your go-to place for cymbal shipping boxes? - [DFO] Drum ForumThey give you a dirty look but sometimes will do it (obviously for smaller cymbals/hats). Otherwise, Home Depot has super cheap boxes for like $3.00 that are big (up to 24") and get yourself a utility knife and make your own.
- Cymbals- Keyholing - [DFO] Drum ForumOn modern cymbals I view keyholes as evidence the prior owner wasn’t very good at taking care of the cymbal and in my head at least that means the cymbal is more likely to have been abused so unless its priced significantly cheaper than a better example, I am less interested.
- Putting Holes in Cymbals? | [DFO] Drum ForumI'm considering 'experimenting' with a crash to make it an 'o-zone' style crash, and wanted to know whether anyone knows something about drilling cymbals and how that affects the sound? So, since I want to achieve maximum 'trashiness', I have some questions: Is it better to drill many small holes, or fewer large holes?
