I think you're correct in surmising that it's a "humorous" (i.e. cringeworthy) attempt by adults to imitate the speech habits of children, along the lines of "I tawt I taw a puddy-tat".

Personally, I use just a simple "regards" when I feel for some reason I have to add my name. Normally I tend to just finish with no trimmings whatsoever.
