Maybe it's because I hold Smallville's characterization of Clark in such high regard but I never once connected emotionally to Clark's struggles in the film. Or his relationship with Lois Lane.

It really adds weight to the idea that Superman is really just Clark Kent, the Kansas boy who was raised by Jonathan and Martha, and Superman is the costume he puts on.
