Bookmark or Share- Old Bushmaster vs new Bushmaster - AR15.COMBushmaster replaced the entire rifle. The new rifle seemed to function ok for about 50 rounds until it failed to to extract a piece of fired brass. I placed the rifle butt on the ground and pushed hard on the cocking knob which promptly broke off. Bushmaster replaced the cocking knob for $7.35, or so. I traded it back to the shop I got it from.
- Windham Weaponry vs Bushmaster - AR15.COMAccurate barrels and well built assemblies. Last year, when I went looking for a Bushmaster XM15-E2S A3 Target, I only wanted a Windham, ME Bushmaster. I will not buy a new Bushmaster. The original Bushmaster made in Windham, ME was a good quality AR and was one of the better built ARs back in the day along with Colt, Armalite, and DPMS.
- Dating a Bushmaster - Question - AR15.COMAs far as accurately dating an older Bushmaster, it may be difficult. The best you may be able to do is get a ballpark time frame like others have given you. I am not sure exactly when mine was made as Windham Weaponry (former BFI) does not have the records. The newer Bushmaster may have the old records, but doubtful they do. Here is my Bushmaster.
- Bushmaster quality - AR15.COMIn regard to Bushmaster quality, a couple years ago, I was looking for a Bushmaster to do a clone of the one Travis Haley used in Najaf, Iraq back in 2004. I DID NOT want a new one. I wanted an older Windham, ME Bushmaster because I knew the quality was better.

This rifle also has the low-profile gas block instead of the standard A2 sight/gas block, which I thought was unusual. The Bushmaster user manual doesn't even show this variant (unless I'm missing it). I just want to make sure I don't have a lousy rifle in my hands. At least I know what "BFI" means.
