Bookmark or Share- New Thames Crossing East of Gravesend | CycleChat Cycling ForumAs it's going to be a tunnel then either: Cycling/walking will be banned (most probably), or it will be so utterly horrible that no one in their right mind will cycle/walk there. So the only hope for continued Kent-Essex fraternisation is that either the Gravesend ferry survives, or they introduce a shuttle thing like at the Dartford crossing.

I'm thinking of cycling through the Blackwall Tunnel in the small hours of the morning - around 4/5am as I'd like to cycle up to Billingsgate Market and this is the most direct route for me. I have a very, very bright front light so that won't be an issue.

Presumably the new road tunnel will have an escape tunnel which could be adapted, but I didn't find the plans on the horrible National Highways site, nor their reasoning for not giving the tunnel a world-beating ...
- Longest cycle tunnel in world opens next monthRotherhithe tunnel would be a tick a box - I love an unusual cycling route. I see it's 19 (US) football fields long! I cycled through the closed Blackwall tunnel on my way to RIdeLondon in 2016. Also very stinky, god knows what I was inhaling.
