Looking at the same test patterns on Lagom, with local dimming disabled, the default 13 black equalizer setting makes the first square visible. With local dimming on high, I have to drop the black equalizer to 10 before the first square starts becoming visible. I use gamma mode 2.

You may have luck looking at the HDR modes there's standard and dynamic. Dynamic, in theory, is to be used in a bright room or when sun is hitting the monitor whereas standard is for a dim or dark lit room.

It changes brightness levels and I find it really odd. In certain games that I can't get HDR working well, I force Local Dimming on and run it in SDR.
