Bedouin fought on both sides of the First World War, and some of the Bedouin elite engaged with the ideals of Arab nationalism in opposition to Ottoman rule. The so-called mandate system involved the British and French colonial occupation of Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Transjordan, under the supervision of the League of Nations. More @Wikipedia
