Bookmark or Share- What does “bitte sehen” mean? - German Language Stack ExchangeAdditionally, I knew that literally "bitten sehen" means something like "please see", but that didn't fit the situation. Within a few minutes of posting my question on here, I received the correct answer ("Auf Wiedersehen"). In my mind, this stackexchange served it purpose perfectly: it helped me determine what it was I had heard. –
- When to say "schönen Tag", when "schönen Tag noch"?It more or less implies that you're at the end of the conversation; you'd never start a conversation with: Einen Guten Tag noch.
- When do we use "Auf Wiedersehen" and "Tschüss"?Auf Wiedersehen. is the more polite and formal way of saying this. Tschüss. should be reserved for friends, relatives and close colleagues. It would be impolite to use Tschüss for people you do not know very well, or for superiors at your work place. Likewise it would be a little bit awkward to use Auf Wiedersehen for your close
- Mixing of 'tschüss' and 'ciao' in saying farewellThat's why I'd always answer "Tschüss", no matter whether the other person said "Tschüss" or "Tschau". One exception is when being greeted very formally - I'd never answer "Auf Wiedersehen" with "Tschüss" - maybe just "Wiedersehen", but mostly also "Auf Wiedersehen". As to formality: "Tschüss" and "Tschau" are both informal.
- How does a German say "Nice to meet you"?It is your first day at a new job, you meet your boss or new colleague: At the end of a conversation say "Ich freue mich auf die Zusammenarbeit mit Ihnen." (I am looking forward to working together with you.) At the end of a pleasant work dinner with your boss or your boss and the wife: "Ich bedanke mich für den schönen Abend."
