Ashura, Muslim holy day observed on the 10th of Muharram, the first month of the Muslim calendar (Gregorian date variable). For Sunni Muslims, Ashura is the day that Allah parted the Red Sea for Moses. For the Shi’ah, it is the day that Muhammad’s grandson Husayn was killed in the Battle of Karbala (680). More @Wikipedia
