Bookmark or Share- Harvesting Ash trees for lumber - need advice - Hearth.com ForumsThe value of ash and sizes wanted has changed a lot over the years - and I'm sure much is based on the region. Ash is used for tooth picks, baseball bats and wide boards. There have been times when there was a good market for very small trees, and other times when you couldn't give them away. Hard Maple is also getting that way now.

Right now there are a couple big ash trees that split off and fell on one another, and also on a big dead beech. If I could somehow figure out how to get them down I’d have a decent stash of firewood.

Not only because you don't want to kill any of your own ash trees, but more importantly you don't want to be the person responsible for its spread. Hopefully that's not the reason why. But as soon as they found EAB in my area, I'm reluctant to take ash if there's a chance its got EAB.
- Can you really burn unseasoned ash? - Hearth.com ForumsOn cities cutting "good" Ash trees - it's sad but pretty much every Ash tree in an infested area is doomed. A large Ash tree costs hundreds of dollars to treat effectively and it has to be done indefinitely. Most cities don't have the funds and we're probably better off eliminating the Ash Borer habitat in areas that are impacted.
- How long does is take to season infested ash trees, that are still ...Here are our 2 ash trees, down, and almost cut into lengths. A large tri-limbed upper trunk is now at my sister in laws goat farm, for goat fun. Next the 2 remaining long trunks need to be cut into lengths. Then start splitting the lengths.
