Adding to mix late night talk shows often benefit greatly from whatever lead in program proceeds (people lazy to change the channel, or whatever), and Arsenio Hall kept losing or couldn't find strong lead in programming.
- Reading "Carson the Magnificent" - the Data Lounge“ Brief mention of Arsenio Hall in the book - I don't remember this but apparently Hall's show was for a time the first and only real competition to Carson's and may have contributed to Carson's decision to retire.” SNL did a skit wherein Carson mimicked Arsenio to catch the hip crowd. Reportedly, Johnny was very unhappy with the skit.
