- "See you all" or "see you everyone" - English Language & Usage Stack ...See you all later! See you later, everyone! Here, everyone is a vocative. Compare: See you later, guys/Jim! Welcome, guys/Jim/everyone! (the last being FumbleFingers’ example above) All has a more restricted use as a vocative, for reasons I don’t understand. For instance, Welcome, all! is (for me) ok, but there is a marked contrast between:
- word choice - How should I reply to "Dude, are you there?" - English ...A: You're supposed to be waiting in front of the restaurant. B: I'm already there, on the north side. In the Dude, are you there? example, however, I do think that it sounds more appropriate to say Yeah dude, I'm here. Saying I'm there sounds slightly awkward in such a situation, but not nearly as awkward as saying Yes, dude.
- phrases - When should I use "hey there" or "hi there"? - English ...It's a personal preference. Both "hi there" and "hi" are informal greetings that can be used interchangeably. That being said, I rarely (if ever) hear someone use "hey there" or "hi there". I would say that those forms have fallen into relative disuse. If you happen to be a Mouseketeer in the 1950's, you may not have a choice in the matter.
- Can you say "see you then/there" when arranging a meeting?"See you there" focuses on the location, while "see you then" references the meeting time. Personally, I always use the then/there depending on what best suits the situation: If my colleague tends to arrive a few minutes late, I lean towards writing "see you then". If my colleague is new to the company, I write "see you there".
