Bookmark or Share- What were AOL chatrooms, and are they still around?AOL kind of shot themselves in the foot in desperate clinging to these chats by changing the personal profiles into individual web pages (must have killed so much data supporting all of those pages, making it way more complicated to communicate and virtually gave away free basic web pages for a while that were attached to your screen name).

If someone sent you a message while you put yourself into an away status they would get whatever message you put up. 2nd best was the sound notifications , the creaking door opening up would immediately send me searching the alphabetized & categorized lists to see if it was my crush was signing on.
