They are called “armoured dinosaurs” for their extensive mosaic of small and large interlocking bony plates that completely encased the back and flanks. Most ankylosaurs, such as Euoplocephalus, Nodosaurus, and Palaeoscincus, were relatively low and broad in body form and walked close to the ground on short, stocky legs in a quadrupedal stance.
