Alnitak - also called Zeta Orionis and 50 Orionis, is a triple star system in the constellation of Orion. It is one of the three main stars forming Orion’s Belt. Alnitak is the 5 th brightest star in its constellation and the 31 st brightest star in the night sky.

Orion’s Belt is one of the most familiar asterisms in the night sky. It is formed by three stars in the constellation Orion: Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka. The bright blue stars are part of the hourglass-shaped constellation figure of Orion.

Explanation: Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka, are the bright bluish stars from east to west (left to right) along the diagonal in this gorgeous cosmic vista. Otherwise known as the Belt of Orion, these three blue supergiant stars are hotter and much more massive than the Sun.
