It doesn't sound dated. But the obvious detail is that it's seasonal. She released Merry Christmas during a time when she was already super popular, so everyone was already into the song and it became a holiday classic. So of course it comes back.

- Why do people hate Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You”The song itself is fine, but I don't need to start hearing it in October/early November. If Christmas would stay in its lane, I wouldn't be so annoyed with the song or any other Christmas songs, but the Christmas season keeps shifting earlier and earlier and it's too much.
