The BM59's op rod is shorter than the that of the Garand, and the ejection cycle is more violent. What could possible go wrong, besides bent op-rods, or sheared lugs. At a minimum, using the wrong ammo will beat the hell out of your rifle, and combined with 80+ year old parts, will shorten its operational life. More @Wikipedia
