Bookmark or Share- Venting Saniflo (or similar) Macerator From BasementWHen waste tries to go into the tank of the Sani-flow, it must displace air (out). An AAV only lets air in, so the waste will have a hard time getting in. That's why it needs an atmospheric vent line. Yes, run it into the attic and then attach it to an existing vent before it goes through the roof, or make a new penetration specifically for it.
- AAV Location or placement under Kitchen sink?Alternatively, you could raise the horizontal pvc pipe before the AAV. In the attached sketch, you put a sanitary tee (santee) up higher, using a long-sweep bend or two 45s to drop the drainage. Then the trap arm goes into the trap adapter on the side of the sanitary tee.

In #1 you have created a siphon before the AAV comes into play, so it does nothing. If the trap siphons and breaks the seal there is nothing between your nose and whatever is in the sewer. You need to use plan #2.

The positive pressure situation occurs if the discharge is greater than the pipe can accomodate causing a pressure buildup, which will limit or prevent, the drainage and affect the sink's trap.
- Air Admittance Valve seems to be a problemWhen I remove the AAV, water flows freely--no problems, even during dishwasher discharge. I replaced the Studor Mini-Vent with a new one but the same problem returned. When I stop either drain, fill with water and remove the stopper, the water drains slowly with the Studor in place abut will flow freely when it is removed.
