Bookmark or Share- Flint River WMA - GON ForumDid see some deer but nothing I wanted to harvest. This was my 4th quota hunt there and I have taken a nice 9 point and a 230 lb. 10 point and always see deer there. However the place has really changed due to lots of timber harvested. My favorite spots were all clear cut. Still love the Flint River WMA.

- What steels can be used to strike a flint - Bushcraft USA ForumsHard, hard carbon steel is what you want; my best strikers were quench hardened in water and left un-tempered. If you quench only halfway (an edge quench, in knife terms) then you can get a hard face and soft back, and a tougher striker. I cracked tons of these in the quench, though. - Finding flint in western PA - Bushcraft USA ForumsNever found any flint but quarts is one of PA's most abundant minerals. Chert can be found easy enough too. Both of which will work fine. As was mentioned earlier, If your not sure of what will throw sparks, carry your steel with you and see which rocks will spark for you. It shouldnt takelong to find something.
