Bookmark or Share- Ryan's Hope Discussion Thread - Soap Opera Network CommunityRH actually took place in NY, and some of the larger than life plots that soaps desperately tried to shoehorn into sleepy Midwestern communities in the mid-'80s would have fit in more readily on RH, in some ways. But nothing ever took off. The 1982 synopses got me thinking along these lines.
- Ryan's Hope Discussion Thread - Page 3 - DTS: Cancelled Soaps - Soap ...Charlotte's father, Neil MacCurtain and his wife, Una, came to New York to kill Frank Ryan as part of a plan to avenge a 40-year-old tragedy that happened in Ireland. It was a classic case of intense family rivalry. In an ambush, Neil's wife was killed. She was the sister of Una, who married Neil.

I always think of RH when people start saying they want more family scenes. RH was had such a strong family core, at least in the beginning. It's truly a character driven show. I wish there were room for another soap like it today, but I just don't see it.

I really enjoy a lot of "Ryan's Hope" once they got rid of Tom Desmond and introduced Kim. While I did find Kim annoying at times, I enjoyed most of the plotting and scheming between herself and Rae. It may not have been fitting with the current vision of "Ryan's Hope," but I thought it was engaging.

Levin had played investigative reporter Jack Fenelli for the entire time. Levin, who lives in Bedford, started off as a theater actor. He performed Shakespeare in Stratford, Conn., and worked at the prestigious Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis.
