Bookmark or Share- Why do you say "friend of mine" instead of "friend of me"?In friend of mine, mine means my friends, so literally He is [one] friend of [all my friends]. or, more idiomatically, He is one of my friends. If I only have one friend and he is my only friend, we cannot then say "he is a friend of mine", because the "mine" doesn't mean a group of people.

- What is the proper way to say possesive with "person X" and self?My wife and I's seafood collaboration dinner. I've never known what the proper way to use a sentence in which you and a specific person (as in you can't just say "our" because you want to specify who) possess something. Is it "Julie's and mine", "Mine and Julies", "Julie and my"...? For instance, "Julie and my favorite band is Eluveitie."

It seems clear to me that the first sentence clearly sounds the best, but I was always told that you should be able to isolate the sentence to just one of the objects, i.e. remove my friend from the sentence, and when I do that, only the second sentence makes sense.
- punctuation - How many people are in the sentence "My friend, John, and ...My friend (John) and I went shopping. So there's still just you and John. I think that most people would assume John was the friend however the commas were arranged, unless they had prior knowledge to suggest otherwise. eg. John and I waited for ages for my friend to turn up. Finally she did, and my friend, John, and I went shopping.
