Residents Titus Pease (1777-1844) and Thomas Rose began making whips. The year was 1801. They were made from white oak for the handle and the lash was made of sheepskin. In 1822 Hiram Hull (1796-1861) emerged with a new innovation in “whip” technology. Hull had been working in the industry since 1810. More @Wikipedia
