- "One-to-one" vs. "one-on-one" - English Language & Usage Stack ExchangeRather than a domination/subordination connotation, I would've said it's more of a competition connotation (it may well be a friendly competition), but that may be a regional thing or it may just be that that's simply the context in which I've heard "one-on-one" used more.

If the document is formal like an official report, i think using the last name is more common. however, if it is more informal, like an essay, i would say that using the first name would be fine.
