English is not so unforgiving about hyphens. Hyphens (similar to commas) have some uses which are firm (as when dividing a word between two lines of writing) and some uses which are more for sense (as when hyphenating modifiers).

There's a graphic novel by "Seth" called "It's a Good Life, If You Don't Weaken" that is a semi-autobiographical telling of the author's life in which he explores a lot of the nuances of that phrase or, at least, uses the phrase to summarize a sort of core value or ideology.
- agree on vs agree about - English Vocabulary - English - The Free ..."Agree about" tends to be more permanent. "Agree on" tends to be dynamic. It's not 'black and white' and you will hear both. My experience of the way they are often used is this: We agree about the subject is of which language we use to communicate. We haven't discussed it - it's just the way we understand things - our 'states of mind' agree.
