Bookmark or Share- Mark IV, V & VI BBC question - Team Camaro TechThe cam retainer plate holes are verticle on a Gen V~VI, rotated 90deg from the Mark IV's horizontal orientation. The '91 on trucks with Gen V's had manual transmissions and use a bracket for the pivot, the later medium duty trucks have a hydraulic clutch. The Gen blocks use longer main cap bolts than the Mark blocks.

- Vintage Air - is there a secret? - Team Camaro TechI installed the ducts on a gen v unit in a 65 Chevelle yesterday. The plenums on the gen v are held on with clips. So I removed the plenums, installed the hoses and then reinstalled the plenums. One of the plenums is on the rear of the evaporator so I installed those hoses before i installed the unit.
- How to tell if my BBC is a gen V, gen VI, or mark IV?Gen 5 won't, but it'll have the same timing cover. May have cast aluminum valve covers if they're original. Gen 6 has a plastic timing cover that's held in place by 6 bolts, may or may not have provision for fuel pump (crate engines had 'em, production engines didn't).
