The Diocese of Vermont withdrew from the Eastern Diocese on May 30, 1832, and elected its own bishop, John Henry Hopkins. St. Paul's Church, Burlington, was set apart as St. Paul's Cathedral on May 6, 1966, and the new building was consecrated on Nov. 11, 1973. The Diocese of Vermont was the first diocese to elect a woman diocesan bishop. More @Wikipedia
