Bookmark or Share- Are contractions like "didn't" forbidden in written English?In Germany, our English teachers always taught us that contractions like "didn't", "he's", "won't" and so on are perfectly valid to use also in written English. The only difference to writing the long version, consisting of two words, was that it would only count as one word.

Maybe Word detects "weren't" and not "didn't" but I'm not sure. I'm not a Word expert. I think however, regardless of the particular contraction, the logic in my answer still applies. –
- politeness - How should I tell someone "I called you but you didn't ...Any sentence that implies "you didn't answer", suggests they made an active decision to not pick up the phone. It's accusatory by nature . Even the extended description says "sometimes they don't answer".
