Bookmark or Share- La Spezia, Levanto, or one of the Cinque Terre towns?In the Cinque Terre the town of Monterosso meets all you requirements. If accommodations are not available for you dates then consider either Levanto or Bonassola, however in May you shouldn’t have big problems finding accommodations in Monterosso. Just don’t wait to the last minute. Levanto and Bonassola will definitely have vacancies in May.

I know that Rick Steves has seemingly singlehandedly elevated the Cinque Terre to a 'must see', but really Venice is MUCH higher on the list of places to visit in Italy. Add all those nights to Florence. Use Florence as a base to visit Florence itself (which needs a couple of days), Siena, and whatever you wish in Tuscany.

You could stay in Lucca (1 night), and if you don't then visit there, it is very nice. I would head out to San Gimignano (3 nights) since you want to go there.
