Here's my final suggestion. I think it's the most natural way to say this: I went shopping with my friend.

According to a grammar website which cites Thomas Bernstein, author of a style guide, "we say "accompanied with [things]" and "accompanied by [people]." Gosh, that was a clunky sentence.
